Using mobile data in Switzerland

Your eSIM connects to a local network in Switzerland, so maps, messages, rides, and translation work like they do at home. Data roaming must be switched on for the eSIM line. That is normal for travel eSIMs and it does not cost extra.

One eSIM can cover most of Europe, so you can cross borders without thinking about your phone. Trains, budget flights, and day trips all stay connected on the same plan.

Mobile networks in Switzerland

eSIM plans for Switzerland connect through Sunrise. 5G is available where the network has built it out. Elsewhere you get 4G.

Sunrise is one of Switzerland's main operators and these plans use its 5G where available, with 4G filling in the rest. Swiss networks are known for reaching well into the mountains, not just the cities.

You will find signal in most valleys, on major rail routes, and at many alpine resorts. The gaps come in remote high passes and deep in the peaks, which is expected in terrain like this.

Data for trains and mountains

Switzerland is built around its rail network, and much of a trip is spent moving between cities and valleys. A mid size plan handles maps, timetables, and messaging across a week of travel.

Scenic train routes and cable cars often have surprisingly good coverage, though tunnels and high peaks will cut the signal. Download offline maps for hiking days.

Wi-Fi and heavier use

Hotels and many cafés offer Wi-Fi, and a lot of trains carry it too, so you can save streaming and big downloads for those. The unlimited short windows help if you want to stream freely on 5G.

Your eSIM is data only with no Swiss number, so keep your home SIM available for any SMS codes.
