Softbank eSIM for travelers
Our travel eSIM plans for Japan connect to the Softbank network. If you searched for an eSIM for Softbank coverage on a trip, this page explains exactly what we sell and where it works.
We are not Softbank
eSIMion is not Softbank, and we do not sell Softbank SIM cards, Softbank plans, or Softbank top-ups. If you are a Softbank customer looking for your own account, contact Softbank directly.
What we sell is a prepaid travel eSIM. In Japan, that eSIM connects to the Softbank network for data. You get local coverage without a Softbank contract, a store visit, or a local sign-up.
How a travel eSIM on the Softbank network works
You buy the plan before your trip and it arrives by email with a tap-to-install link and a QR code. When you land, your phone connects to Softbank's towers and data works. Your home SIM stays in place and your number does not change.
Where Softbank has built out 5G, you get 5G on supported plans. Elsewhere you get 4G, which is fine for maps, messaging, and video calls.
The plan is data only. It does not come with a local phone number, so calls and texts to your regular number still arrive through your home SIM.
Our Japan plans on Softbank
Our Japan eSIM plans ride on Softbank. The Japan page lists every plan size, validity, and what to expect from the network on the ground.
