Using mobile data in Türkiye

Your eSIM connects to a local network in Türkiye, so maps, messages, rides, and translation work like they do at home. Data roaming must be switched on for the eSIM line. That is normal for travel eSIMs and it does not cost extra.

Mobile networks in Türkiye

eSIM plans for Türkiye connect through Turk Telekom (Avea). 5G is available where the network has built it out. Elsewhere you get 4G.

Türk Telekom, which absorbed the former Avea mobile brand, is one of the country's three national operators. These plans reach its 5G where it has launched and fall back to widespread 4G elsewhere.

Coverage is strong across Istanbul, the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, and Cappadocia. In the far eastern mountains and remote interior, service is thinner but still present in most towns.

Big country, generous plan range

Türkiye is large and its plans reflect that, running up to very high data amounts and long windows. A long trip covering Istanbul, the coast, and Cappadocia can lean on a larger plan without worry.

For a short city break, a small or mid size plan handles maps, messaging, and the odd video call.

Apps and Wi-Fi

WhatsApp is the everyday messenger for reaching hotels, guides, and drivers. It runs on data with no local number required.
