How a travel eSIM on the Movistar network works
You buy the plan before your trip and it arrives by email with a tap-to-install link and a QR code. When you arrive, your phone connects to Movistar's towers (or a partner network, depending on the country) and data works. Your home SIM stays in place and your number does not change.
Where Movistar has built out 5G, you get 5G on supported plans. Elsewhere you get 4G, which is fine for maps, messaging, and video calls.
The plan is data only. It does not come with a local phone number, so calls and texts to your regular number still arrive through your home SIM.

Movistar across Latin America
Movistar is the brand Telefónica uses in Latin America. Our eSIM connects to Movistar in six countries: Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, and Uruguay.
These are among the larger Spanish-speaking economies, so Movistar's combined coverage spans a significant stretch from the southern cone up through Central America.
Network strength by country
In Chile and Mexico, Movistar runs a well-established 4G network with 5G rolling out in major cities. Argentina has strong 4G in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Rosario, with decent connectivity along Patagonian tourist routes.
In Peru, coverage is reliable in Lima and Cusco but thinner in highland and jungle regions. Machu Picchu town has signal; the trek itself does not.
El Salvador and Uruguay have compact geographies that make nationwide 4G coverage more consistent than in larger neighbors. In El Salvador, coastal and volcano tourist areas are generally covered.
