Airtel eSIM for travelers
Our travel eSIM plans connect to the Airtel network in 10 countries. If you searched for an eSIM for Airtel coverage on a trip, this page explains exactly what we sell and where it works.
We are not Airtel
eSIMion is not Airtel, and we do not sell Airtel SIM cards, Airtel plans, or Airtel top-ups. If you need help with your Airtel account, contact Airtel directly.
What we sell is a prepaid travel eSIM. In the countries listed below, that eSIM connects to the Airtel network for data. You get local coverage without signing a contract with Airtel, making a store visit, or completing a local sign-up.
How a travel eSIM on the Airtel network works
You buy the plan before your trip and it arrives by email with a tap-to-install link and a QR code. When you arrive, your phone connects to Airtel's towers (or a partner network, depending on the country) and data works. Your home SIM stays in place and your number does not change.
Where Airtel has built out 5G, you get 5G on supported plans. Elsewhere you get 4G, which is fine for maps, messaging, and video calls.
The plan is data only. It does not come with a local phone number, so calls and texts to your regular number still arrive through your home SIM.
Where our plans use the Airtel network

Airtel across sub-Saharan Africa
Airtel covers 10 countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Zambia, Chad, and Seychelles. That makes it one of the most geographically broad operators on the continent.
Seychelles is the exception — an island nation in the Indian Ocean where Airtel is the dominant carrier and 4G coverage is strong across the main islands.
Coverage expectations
In Nigeria, Airtel reaches Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and the major state capitals with 4G. Urban 5G is expanding in Lagos and Abuja. Outside major cities, network quality varies by state.
Across East Africa — Uganda and Tanzania — Airtel has solid 4G in Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar, with patchy signal in remote upcountry areas. In landlocked Malawi and Zambia, coverage follows the main highway corridors and towns.
In DR Congo and Chad, coverage is limited to the main urban centres. Plan data use accordingly if your itinerary includes rural or border areas in these countries.
